Solution

Choose the appropriate Flash Player version:

Starting from December 18, 2007, when Adobe released security bulletins, Adobe ended support for Adobe Flash Player 7 and no longer provides security updates. Adobe recommends updating to the latest version of Flash Player through the Flash Player Download Center. To accommodate customers using Windows 95, Microsoft NT, and Macintosh Classic, Adobe updated Flash Player 7 with security patches until it released Flash Player 9. Flash Player 9 was also updated for Linux and Solaris customers before its release.

If you are using unsupported configurations or wish to continue using Adobe Flash Player 7, you can find archived installers in the Archived Versions section of Adobe Support for Flash Player. The information on this tech note continues to apply to developers testing Flash Player 7.

Uninstall the previous version of Flash Player:

The regular uninstaller (uninstall_flash_player.exe) works together with new version checking logic to remove Flash Player from the system. This uninstaller is a general uninstaller that can remove any version of Flash Player. If you want to move from a newer version to an older version, Adobe recommends first completely removing the new version and then installing the old version.

Installing an earlier version of Flash Player may fail if you previously installed a newer version of Flash Player for Internet Explorer. For example, if you installed Flash Player 9.0.47.0 and try to install version 9.0.45.0, the installation will fail.

With the release of Flash Player 10.1 (Argo), there were significant changes in command-line parameters. Users who were using the standalone uninstaller no longer need to use the -clean/-force parameters to fully uninstall Flash Player. However, when using FlashUtil.exe, users still need to use the -force parameter to perform a full uninstallation.

To ensure complete deletion of Flash Player, run the standard uninstaller uninstall_flash_player.exe.
